CERRITOS LIBRARY CARD FEES & POLICIES

Cerritos Resident - FREE
Owner of property in Cerritos (listed on deed) - FREE
Person employed in Cerritos - FREE
Person attends school in Cerritos - FREE
Student who attends any ABC Unified School District School - FREE
Student who attends any Bellflower Unified School District School  - FREE 
Student who attends Cerritos College - FREE
Employee of the ABC Unified School District or Cerritos College - FREE
Person staying at the Cerritos Sheraton Hotel - FREE
Active duty military personnel who serve in the United States
Air Force, Army, Coast Guard, Marine Corps, Navy, National Guard
and Reserve, who are permanent or temporary residents of California - FREE

All other patrons who are not residents of Cerritos - $150/year
The $150 library card fee offsets the costs associated with providing library
services to patrons who are not Cerritos residents. This fee is non-refundable.

Lost, stolen or damaged library card replacement fee - $5

Library cards for Cerritos residents are valid for three years.
Library cards for all other cardholders are valid for one year.

Patrons must show the required forms of identification when renewing their library card.

Library cards are not transferable; this restriction includes family members.

Each patron is responsible for the material checked out on their card.

Patrons must be age 13 or older to check out Blu-Ray discs and DVDs.

Cerritos Library cardholders can access Wi-Fi service at no charge in the Cerritos Library.

Cerritos Library cardholders can log on to the library’s public computers by entering their
card number. Cerritos Library cardholders are allowed to use the public computers for more
time per day than Computer-Use Only cardholders.

OVERDUE FINES

All Cerritos Library materials (except Blu-ray discs, DVDs and the California State Library Parks Pass) - $.15 per day

All Blu-ray discs or DVDs - $2 per day

California State Library Parks Pass - $1 per day

Total amount of fines on a Cerritos Library account must be less than $5.00 to check out
materials with the card. Overdue and late fines are calculated on a daily basis including
the day of return.

KIDS CAN READ AWAY FINES

Youngsters up to age 18 with Cerritos Library fines for overdue books are encouraged to
participate in the Read Away Your Fines program. Here is how to participate:

  • Cardholder must check in at the Circulation Desk with library staff.
  • Library staff will note the time you will start reading.
  • Read in the Cerritos Library for at least 30 minutes.
  • Cardholder must sign out at the Circulation Desk.
  • Library staff will record the amount of time you spent reading and will reduce your fines accordingly.

The Read Away Your Fines benefits and rules follow:

  • For every 30 minutes that you read inside the Cerritos Library, the library waives $2.50 of your ­fines.
  • You must complete your reading while inside the Cerritos Library.
  • Cardholders under 5 years old can be read to by an adult.
  • You can participate in the program an unlimited number of times.
  • It is not possible to build a credit for future ­fines.
  • Only overdue fi­nes for juvenile books and age-appropriate books are waived.
  • Fines for lost or damaged items, overdue DVDs and overdue CDs are not eligible for the program.

LOST OR DAMAGED MATERIAL FEES

Cost of item plus a $5.00 processing fee will be charged for each lost item.
No overdue fines will be charged on lost or damaged material.
No refunds will be given for lost or damaged items.

Please call the Cerritos Library at (562) 916-1340 if an item you checked out has prior damage,
so we can add a note to your account.

RENEWALS

All items except instructional DVDs and the California State Library Parks Pass are renewable one time unless the item is placed on hold by another patron.
Renewals on inter-library loans are at the discretion of the lending library.
Items may be renewed by telephone by calling (562) 916-1340, in person or online at cerritoslibrary.us after
logging into My Account.
Provide your library card number to renew items over the phone.
Provide your library card when renewing items in person.

LOAN PERIODS
(Three week loan period except where noted)

Total item limit - 25
Subject limit - 5
Encyclopedias - 5
Books on CD - 5
CDs - 5
Blu-ray discs/DVDs (One week loan period; can be renewed once) – 10
Instructional DVDs are checked out for three weeks with no renewal.
California State Library Parks Pass is checked out for two weeks with no renewal.

HOLDS & INTER-LIBRARY LOANS
Please note that books placed on hold can only be checked out by the cardholder.

Interlibrary loans must be returned inside the Cerritos Library and may not be placed in an external bookdrop.
Hold/Interlibrary Loan Limit - 4
Interlibrary loans for non-residents request fee - $3
Failure to pick up Interlibrary Loan fee - $3
Failure to pick up a hold or cancel a hold request by the expiration date fee - $.50
Returning Interlibrary Loans in Bookdrop fee - $2

RETURNING LIBRARY MATERIALS

Cerritos Library materials may be returned inside the library, or at the bookdrops in the following locations:

  • Cerritos Civic Center, Bloomfield Avenue at 183rd Street, southwest corner of the parking lot
  • Cerritos Park East, 13234 E. 166th Street
  • Liberty Park, 19211 Studebaker Road

Audio-visual materials, such as Books on CD, DVDs and Blu-ray discs may be returned in any outside bookdrop.

If you would like to check out materials the same day that you are returning items, please bring the items you are
returning inside the library and do not place them in an outside bookdrop.
