The Cerritos Library includes an area that is dedicated to its Young
Adult visitors. This room is home to an extensive collection
of fiction books and periodicals and is located on the far end of the
first floor across from the Craftsman area. This special area for teens
features Art Deco design and the portal was inspired by the iconic Pan
Pacific Auditorium located in Los Angeles.
The Young Adult room provides a comfortable space for teenagers to read,
study, and work in small groups. Study tables include data ports and
power so teens can plug in and connect their laptop computers to the
Internet. An Info Station service point provides assistance. A
variety of booklists to satisfy young adult readers' interests are offered. Teens
can also access the electronic catalog here.
The room features displays of items of interest to young adults, such
as the winning entries for the Library's teen art, photography, poetry
and short story contests. Exhibits are regularly changed throughout
the year.
A beautifully illuminated etched glass wall divides the Young Adult
area from the multimedia collection which features DVD’s, audiobooks
and CDs.
The Library plans special programs for teens, such as plays and concerts,
author visits, video game tournaments and the ever popular Summer Reading
Program. In addition, middle school and high school teachers are invited
to bring their classes to the Library for tours and instruction on library
research.
Area teens are encouraged to become involved with the Library through
the Volunteen program. Volunteens shelve books, help children access
information on computers and assist librarians with other tasks.
