The City of Cerritos is delighted to present an exhibit of astrophotography artwork created by talented students in the Cerritos Library’s Youth Capture the Colorful Cosmos program. Youth Capture the Colorful Cosmos is funded by the Smithsonian Institution’s Youth Access Grants program managed by the Office of the Assistant Secretary for Education and Access. The project is led by the Harvard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics, in partnership with Smithsonian Affiliations.

Working in the Library’s Hi-Tech Lab, students remotely controlled telescopes in the Harvard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics MicroObservatory Telescope Network to photograph the cosmos. Spacer_R

Students used special software to create colorful artwork from the astrophotos they had taken with the telescopes. Spacer_R

Students made a spectrascope to view the colors of different lights. They also observed the sun with a telescope equipped with a solar filter. Spacer_R
