Radiance and Repose

Radiance and Repose features two poems by Gerry Gomez Pearlberg, set in two accordion fold books. The first, entitled “My Neighbor’s Tree in Bloom,” is in a vertical format and can be read from top to bottom or displayed as a table sculpture, allowing the red blossoms incorporated into the structure to hang below the central peak. The color can also be seen through the cutouts in the blind embossed drawings.

The second book, entitled “Litany at Dusk,” is a horizontal piece and contains a bass wood stick treaded with ribbon loops. It is best viewed as a wall hanging. The two books are housed in a Japanese cloth-covered clamshell box with a partitioned tray, which allows them to sit side by side.
